Mosquitoes are a tasty treat for the bats that live in the bat box above the WET SEDGE MEADOW. This bat box is surrounded by a wetland community with standing water for at least part of the year (but not usually all year).  A unique combination of plants grow only in this ecosystem, such as goldenrod, New England aster (Aster novae-angliae), wild iris (Iris spp.), marsh milkweed (Asclepias incarnata), and giant angelica (Angelica atropurpurea). This is a great place to catch a glimpse of Severson Dells’s resident snakes as well.
