Sandhill Crane (Grus canadensis)

STATUS: Native, Migratory, Least Concern

DESCRIPTION: Their wingspan is around 6.5 ft. long and they can weigh 7.5-10.8 lbs. Some may stand up to 4 ft. tall.

HABITAT: Sandhill Cranes can be found in open areas with water such as grasslands, marshes, and wetlands.

DIET: Their diet consists of seeds, tubers, invertebrates, small amphibians and reptiles, and sometimes small mammals.

NOTES: Sandhill Cranes make loud, low rattling calls that somewhat resemble goose honks at some points. They are protected on the US Migratory Bird list.
