Severson Dells is excited to partner with the Forest Preserves of Winnebago County, Boone County Conservation District, Byron Forest Preserves, Dekalb County Forest Preserves and the Natural Land Institute to offer opportunities for AmeriCorps volunteers to engage in environmental education, habitat restoration and citizen science.

Applications are open for the Environmental Education positions. All other positions will be posted later this fall/winter.


Environmental Education Members

Environmental Education Members will help with school and public education programs at Severson Dells Nature Center and at some off-site locations in Winnebago County. Members will be provided training on local ecosystems, native flora and fauna as well as best practices in environmental education and group management.

Citizen Science Members

Members supporting citizen science will help train volunteers in the field, lead field monitoring days, enter and analyze data and provide end of monitoring season data to staff. These positions are great for those who are interested in getting involved in field science or citizen science as a career.

Natural Resource Members

Natural Resource Members will have the opportunity to help with habitat restoration, seed collection and other natural resource tasks. Members have the option to serve with the Forest Preserves of Winnebago County, the Natural Land Institute, Byron Forest Preserves, Boone County Conservation District or Dekalb County Forest Preserves.
