STATUS: Native, “Least Concern”

DESCRIPTION: Groundhogs are the largest members of the squirrel family, reaching up to twenty six inches in length.

DIET: Their diet consist of fruit, vegetables, grass, wood, and other small animals.

HABITAT: Live in woodland areas that are beside open ones.

NOTES: Its known predators include foxes, bobcats, and coyotes. Groundhogs hibernate from October through March in dens or burrows. In order to make these burrows, groundhogs often have to move over 700 pounds of dirt! Though they spend most of their time on the ground, they can swim and are known to be excellent tree climbers.
