River Otter

STATUS: Native, “Least Concern”

DESCRIPTION: They can weigh up to 30 lbs. and may grow to be around 4 ft. long.

DIET: River Otters diets consist of fish, turtles, crayfish, crabs, and some plant life.

HABITAT: River Otters are commonly found in rivers, lakes, marshes, swamps, and estuaries.

NOTES: River otters can communicate by various screams, growls, whistles, and chuckles. They are very social animals, and can be seen playing with family members by sliding around on their bellies and teaching each other how to catch food.
