Northern Mockingbird (Mimus polyglottos)

STATUS: Native, Migratory, Least Concern

DESCRIPTION: They weigh 1.6-2 oz. and have a wingspan of 12.2-13.8 in.

HABITAT: Northern Mockingbirds live in open areas with dense undergrowth such as thickets, brush, and also in urban areas such as neighborhoods and parks.

DIET: Their diet includes insects, berries, and fruit.

NOTES: Northern Mockingbird are named for their ability to mimic other birds’ songs. They are protected on the US Migratory Bird list.  

FREQUENCY: Rare
