Least Weasel

STATUS: Native, “Least Concern”

DESCRIPTION: Its flanks and back are usually some shade of brown while its belly is white.

DIET: Primarily small rodents, but also eats rabbits, mammals, birds, eggs, fish, and frogs. Average body length is 5 to 10 inches and they weigh from .5 to 3.4 inches.

HABITAT: Fields, open woodland, bushy or rocky areas, parks and gardens.

NOTES: These animals are considered to be good omens in Macedonian folklore. The Ojibwe believed the least weasel could kill the wendigo giant and the Inuit believed it o be a sign of wisdom and courage.
