Hoary Bat

STATUS: Native, “Least Concern”

DESCRIPTION: It is 5.1 to 5.7 in long and weighs .92 oz. Its coat is dense and dark brown, with white tips to the hairs that give the species its 'hoary' appearance for which it is named.

DIET: Insects, mostly moths.

HABITAT: It prefers woodland, mainly coniferous forests, but hunts over open areas or lakes.

NOTES: More hoary bats are killed by wind turbines than any other kind of bat.
