STATUS: Native, “Least Concern”

DESCRIPTION: 13-18 in long and weighs 1-3 lbs, with the tail making up 38-51% of body length. It has dense, dark brown fur that is popular in the fur trade.

DIET: Rodents, fish, crustaceans, frogs, and birds,

HABITAT: These are semi-aquatic animals and are found in wetland environments near streams, rivers, and lakes.

NOTES: Since the extinction of the sea mink, the American mink is the only existing mink. Mink are bred in captivity for their fur. It performed very well on intelligence tests to recognize visual objects and may perform better than house cats at such a task.
