STATUS: Native, “Least Concern”
DESCRIPTION:They are long, slender-bodied weasels with short limbs and bushy tails. Their fur ranges from yellowish beige to tawny brown to near black. They have athroat and chest “bib” that ranges from pale yellow to bright orange. They can be 1.5-2 feet long and weigh 1-3 pounds.
DIET: They are opportunistic predators that require around 80 calories a day at rest. They are known to eat voles, snowshoe hares, mice, and birds.
HABITAT: They live in coniferous or mixed forests.
NOTES: These creatures have seen a large population decline due to trapping and deforestation.
